F.C. Nova captures National Indoor Soccer Championship

F.C. Nova ’00 captured the National Indoor Soccer Championship title with a 5-1 victory over the Jr. Blast Roma from Columbus, Ohio. The boys overcame a sluggish start to the game when Alex Steinwascher took a ball up the right side of the field and hit a shot to the upper corner to give Nova a 1-0 lead – a lead they would not relinquish. The boys built the lead to 3-0 using superior ball skills and crisp passing to overwhelm the Blast's physical game. The Blast made it interesting by scoring it’s lone goal with approximately eight minutes left in the game; however, Nova answered less than a minute later with its fourth goal and salted the game away with its final goal with about four minutes left. The team lost its Sunday morning game, 2-1 to NEO Soccer in a game that also saw the boys deal with an extremely physical team. However, Coach Gary Maccagnone used the time between the morning game and final to refine the boys strategy. To deal with the physical nature of the Ohio teams, Maccagnone implored the boys to use better ball movement while reinforcing the need for players to be positioned properly to make good tackles. Nova made the final by capturing its flight with 10 points, including dominating wins over Team Ohio FC and Michigan Rush Nike. The boys also captured the NISC Regional title at Total Soccer in January.

’96 Nova Black takes 1st Place at the National Indoor Regional Championship in Canton Dec 22-23, 2007. With four straight wins over Waza, Wolves and Canton Celtics (Red & White), the U12 Nova Black team are regional champions in the U12 Division I bracket which qualifies them for the National Championship to be held Feb 23-24 at Total Soccer. This team is a force to be reckoned with on the indoor turf. Having won three National Indoor Regionals in the 2006-07 season, the boys went on to win it all and the title of U12 Division II National Champions last season as a U11 team. We know the up-coming competition will be tough, but this team’s got what it takes to go the distance! Congratulations boys on the win in Canton and good luck at Nationals. Play hard – you can do it!!!
U8 National Indoor Regional Champs!

The boys were the top seed going into the final against the Michigan Revolution on Sunday afternoon after beating the Carpathia Kickers 12-3 and Novi Jaguars 10-2 on Saturday. It was the second game of the day against the Revolution: Nova ’00 won 7-3 earlier in the day.
The final was a struggle early as the boys moved the ball effectively, but stellar play by the Revolution’s keeper and missed chances by the boys resulted in just a 2-0 lead at halftime. With some minor adjustments and a renewed focus, the boys dominated the second half.
The boys will now move on to the NISC National tournament on March 1 & 2 in Canton. Well done boys!!

The ‘96 Nova Black team was named the 2007 U12 Division II National
Champions at the National Indoor Championship Tournament held at Total
Soccer Wixom February 24-25, 2007. The U11 boys had previously
won three National Indoor Regional Tournaments (U11 Div I held at Total
Soccer Fraser Dec 2-3; U12 Div I held in Columbus Jan 6-7; and U12 Div
II held in Maumee Jan 20-21) earning the right to compete in the National
Tournament.
The boys prevailed in the preliminary round beating
three tough teams (Team America 94 – Virginia; Holt Strikers – Michigan; and
Claymores 94 - Ohio) advancing to the semis where they were paired against
a determined Alliance FC team from Grand Rapids. The Nova boys
beat Alliance 10-2 and faced off against NOSO United (Ohio) in the final
match. Nova fought hard against a team they had met previously
in the final at the Columbus Regional Tournament. NOSO scored their
first and only goal early in the game, but the Nova boys remained patient
and using their skills and endurance, defeated NOSO United with a final
score of 5-1.
Under the guidance of Coach Henry Steinwascher
these U11 boys have learned that to succeed in soccer, you must set
goals, believe in yourself and work hard. Team work, dedication and love of the game have produced
a fine group of soccer players and true champions! Congratulations
boys! Your parents, coaches and the Nova/Gators Club are proud
of you!
Congratulations - Nova 95 Blue

Regional Indoor Championship Division II Winners-
In the Regionals held December 2-3 at Total Soccer- Fraser, Coach
Gene had the boys fired up and ready to play. They
went undefeated in their bracket, beating some fine teams from the Mustangs,
Waza, and AAYSA Arsenal. They then pulled out a 2-0 win against last year's
Division II - NIC Finals winner, Los Matadors, not letting a clock malfunction
bother them. Every boy played their best and the results prove it. Great
job, Blue. as the NIC Regional champions!

“Winning is a by-product
of playing great soccer.”
More than anything, the game
is about imagination. To stimulate a player’s creative abilities,
every coach should foster a positive environment for the developing
player, an environment that allows the player to be inventive, spontaneous,
and unafraid.
At FC NOVA, we encourage this type of approach, while instilling
in each player the technical ability needed to advance the player
to his highest potential. From the earliest years of 6 through 8,
our staff is dedicated to teaching the necessary foot skills to our
students, the type of skills that allow them to compete against any
team in the land.
As you can see, we have assembled a staff known to be great “teachers” of
the game. These are teachers who have high expectations for each student.
The bar will be set high. The coaching staff will not accept mediocrity.
Expect the players to know how to play out of their back end, to switch
the field, to run diagonals, to understand combination play. Players
will know how to curve shots, how to chip balls softly over a defenders
head, how to hit a volley out of the air with either foot.
Through hard work and determination every player’s dreams can
be realized! As an organization, our strongest belief is that we should
never get in the way of our player’s dreams. We are about hope,
about will, about perseverance, about respect, about humility, about
keeping your word. FC NOVA is a boy’s soccer Club you can count
on, an organization you can trust to always have your son’s best
interests at heart. |
